Hope in Every Beam: HRDP SIMANA’s Impact on Rural Resilience

Overview:
Ajudha Kami, a 62-year-old farmer from Upper Tareythang village, faced significant challenges with lighting in her home. Though connected to the grid, frequent power outages forced her to rely on a kerosene lamp. This source of light not only emitted harmful smoke, affecting her respiratory health, but was also unreliable and costly, especially for a family with two disabled members who struggled with managing lighting needs.

Outcome:
After receiving a solar light under the HRDP SIMANA project, Ajudha experienced immediate transformations. The solar light provided brighter, more dependable illumination, especially during power cuts. It also eliminated the need for kerosene, significantly reducing her monthly expenses. The new lighting system improved her health by removing exposure to smoke, and made it easier for her to navigate the house at night, enhancing safety for her and her family.

Impact:

The solar light has had a profound impact on Ajudha's life, improving both her health and financial situation. By removing harmful smoke and providing reliable lighting, it has enhanced her quality of life. This intervention has been especially valuable for Ajudha's family, who faced additional challenges due to their disabilities, making it difficult to afford or manage alternative lighting. The HRDP SIMANA project has truly made a life-changing difference for Ajudha and her family.

“This solar light has been a blessing. It’s safer, cleaner, and makes life easier. The biggest relief is that we no longer have to inhale the harmful smoke from kerosene” lamps.
